Inspired by the places that shape us.
About Studio Rocksalt
Drawing is my way of understanding a place…
…And some places never really leave us.
They become woven into our memories in ways we rarely expect. A city explored on foot. A favourite coastline returned to year after year. A building admired for its quiet beauty. Even a place we've only encountered through books, maps or stories can leave a lasting impression.
The places that shape us become part of our lives. They influence how we see the world, inspire our curiosity and often find their way into the homes we create.
Studio Rocksalt exists to celebrate those connections. Every collection begins with a place and explores it through art, whether that's a hand-drawn architectural study, a colourful illustration, a historic map or a carefully chosen vintage print. Different mediums, different perspectives, united by the same belief: that the places which matter to us are always worth remembering.
Founded in 2022 by Architect and Artist Scott Bennion, Studio Rocksalt is a collection of artworks inspired by place. Through atmospheric architectural drawings, colourfully illustrated destinations, minimalist maps and carefully curated vintage prints, the studio explores the many ways we experience and remember the world around us.
My own fascination with place began long before Studio Rocksalt. As an architect, I've spent years studying the relationship between buildings, landscapes and the people who move through them. Architecture has taught me that every place has its own story, revealed not only through grand landmarks but through proportion, materials, light and the quieter details that are often overlooked.
Alongside architecture, drawing has always been part of how I observe the world. It's a slower way of looking. Spending hours drawing a building or landscape reveals things that are easily missed when simply passing by. Every line encourages closer observation, uncovering the character and atmosphere that make one place distinct from another.
As I began thinking about the artwork I wanted to live with in my own home, I realised I was searching for pieces that shared that same sense of place. Creating my own architectural drawings and illustrations became a natural extension of my love of drawing, while collecting historic maps and vintage prints introduced different perspectives on the places that continue to inspire me.
Although the collections vary in style, they are united by a single idea. Whether it's an original architectural drawing, a colourful illustration, a centuries-old map or a vintage print, each piece offers its own interpretation of a place and the stories connected to it.
I don't see Studio Rocksalt as simply a collection of travel art prints. I see it as a collection of places. Some are familiar. Some are historic. Some exist in memory, while others are destinations still waiting to be discovered. Together, they celebrate the landscapes, cities and architecture that shape our lives.
I believe the most meaningful homes aren't designed around trends. They're built around the experiences, memories and places that matter to the people who live there. The artwork we choose becomes part of that story, reminding us where we've been, inspiring where we might go next and reflecting the places that have quietly become part of who we are.
If Studio Rocksalt encourages someone to look more closely at a place, remember it more vividly or discover a new connection with it, then it has achieved exactly what it was created to do.
The ‘Drawings’ Collection
Journey with Pencil and Paper
Each drawing in this collection is created with nothing more than graphite pencils and a soft putty rubber - simple tools used with quiet precision. These hand-drawn studies capture atmospheric moments and architectural splendour in a subtle chiaroscuro style.
From iconic landmarks to hidden corners, they speak of stillness; of life momentarily paused between footsteps.
The ‘Illustrations’ Collection
Imagination Layered Over Observation
These stylised artworks begin with real places then through a digital brush and a distinctive artistic lens, they evolve into something more abstract and evocative. Combining the textured richness of classic impressionism with the clean simplicity of minimalism, each illustration distils the essence of a landscape into striking forms and colours.
What remains is not a literal scene but the memory of it, shaped by emotion, time and imagination. Romantic, modern and wishful, these pieces invite you to see familiar places in unexpected ways.
The ‘Maps’ Collection
Art that Captures Spirit as Much as Geography
These monochrome map prints go beyond borders. Each piece presents the simple outline of a country paired with a thoughtful, dictionary-style definition.
These are maps for reflection. Each one captures the spirit of a place - its rhythms, quirks and quiet charm - through understatement and imagination. Whether it’s a place you’ve lived, longed for or simply love, these artworks offer a playful, poetic twist on traditional cartography.
The ‘Vintage’ Collection
Curated Treasures with a Story of Their Own
These pieces were first printed in the 1920s and '30s at a time when the world was opening up to commercial travel. Designed to inspire wanderlust and promote new destinations, the posters captured the excitement and elegance of early tourism.
Each one has been carefully scanned and meticulously restored to bring back the bold colours and vibrant spirit of the originals. These are not just artworks but glimpses into a golden era of adventure and aspiration when travel was glamour and every journey promised something new.
The ‘Etchings’ Collection
Rooted in Craft, Etched with Intent
Carefully studied, scanned and subtly restored to its original charm, these artworks began life over a century ago as antique metal etchings depicting scenes from around the world.
Marked by fine lines they are windows into another era - timeless, nostalgic and deeply evocative. Each one is a fragment of history, reimagined for today.
